Since I’m working on test benchwork for Dallas Divide, I thought it was time to replace some of the cardboard mockups with real structures. Last year at the Narrow Gauge Convention in Colorado, I picked up the Dallas Divide Section house. Time to build that kit.
It’s an old kit and the board and batten was something you actually had to build up, unlike a number of kits today. It was a total pleasure doing that.
This kit did not come with any jigs as the kits from Crystal River did. I made up the first window and decided I needed a jig. So I cut one and that made the window building process a whole lot simpler. This kit did not have adhesive backed parts. I used spray adhesive and the results are pretty good. Hopefully it will stand the test of time.
It’s been a fun structure to build. From the old photos, it appears that they had a shake type roof vs tar paper that was included in the kit. Luckily I have a supply of Crystal Rivers Stainable Shingles, that I’m using. I forgot to take photos of building the porch, but that was challenging. I should have read the instructions closer, oh well.
But this has been fun as we endure the heat in the Bay Area. Happy 4th!
